More Than 10K Filipinos Feared Dead After Super Typhoon; Christian Relief Responding

Local government officials call the damage “horrific” after Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) slammed into the Philippines on Friday. Christian News reported that more than 10,000 people are feared dead after winds exceeding 150 miles per hour flattened entire villages. An airport manager told news outlets that the flood waters rose as high as 13 feet as his staff clung to trees and poles as the storm swept through the airport. Philippine military sources say as many as 1,000 are confirmed dead and the numbers keep climbing. USA Today says if the 10K death toll is confirmed, Yolanda will be the “deadliest national catastrophe on record in the Philippines.”

World Vision, Convoy of Hope and Food for the Hungry are all providing relief, as well as the Salvation Army and Samaritan’s Purse. View this video for a look at the devastation.
