Doug Logan: Why True Racial Reconciliation Has to Start With Jesus

“What we don’t want to do is we don’t want to heal the neighborhood with conversations about the idea that we should be friends. The missional engagement should flow out of recognizing that we are sent to reach all nations with the gospel.”

“Remember, the world is loaded with divisions, from gangs to races to denominations. Everybody is mad at each other and fighting.”

“Reconciliation costs you something. It costs you a commitment to be a crock-pot Christian and to be there the whole journey.”

“Often pastors can get caught in the weeds of ministry demands and then we don’t preach a humongous Jesus.”

“The Scripture says dead in trespasses and sin. Not sick, not needing to be tweaked. No! Jesus didn’t die for a tweak. Jesus died to make me fully alive!”

“We lack a gospel and race conversation that is clear, concise, and healthy…We have lacked an imago dei grounding, an understanding of who we are, we lack that anthropology.”

“We’re not selling anything new. We’re trying to get them to say what they already are!”

“A lot of the arguments that are happening have a biblical illiteracy to them…We’ve got multi-generational, uninformed believers and we’ve got to fix that.”

“We just need the church to help us process to see what God already says about race and the gospel.”

“Denominations come alongside the church. The church does not come alongside denominations…Denominations have to be structured biblically to the best of our ability…If that is not there, then we are operating in a means that is hard to navigate relationship.”
