Why Great Ideas Die (Part 3)

My mom invented everything….or at least that’s how it seemed when I was growing up. For example, she was always concerned with keeping the bathroom sink clean, so she came up with the toothpaste tube and attached cap that won’t get lost. She also came up with the no-mess toothpaste dispenser. Okay, so it seems like she invented everything related to toothpaste. My point is that she had these ideas, but didn’t make them a reality. She told me and others of the ideas, but didn’t know what to do to actually get the ball rolling. The result: someone else had the same ideas and did something with them.

Ever happen to you?

This week I’ve been writing about why great ideas die. I’ve talked about “The Pyramid of Death” which you can learn about  here. The pyramid describes how to get an idea communicated, adopted, and lived out by people. What the pyramid doesn’t show is what must happen first.

No great idea will come to life unless the ideator (that’s you) acts on the idea. It’s pointless to communicate your idea to others unless you are willing to do something to make your idea a reality. So act.

God has probably already put some ideas in your head.  Ideas about work, ministry, family, hobbies, a great recipe, or a business venture, but nothing will come of those ideas unless you take some steps to make them happen.  Today don’t just talk about your ideas, WORK on them. Your first step may be to write an action plan, it may be to gather some funds, it may be to ask for advice.  Whatever your first step is, take it today!

Remember, an idea isn’t really a great idea until it’s realized. If an idea sits on a shelf (more often than not the shelf of your mind) it will never become a GREAT idea.
