Five years ago when I moved with a team of approximately 35 couples and many young people to the city of Fortaleza to plant a big cell church, we already knew that our goal also included starting many small cell churches in the poor rural areas of the North Eastern region of Brazil.
We realized that to have a strong on-going church-planting movement, we would have to have a healthy “mother church” that would raise-up good leaders through the cell system and provide the initial funding to give support for the new church-plants.
The Fortaleza “mother church” is now 5 years old with 460 cells. But what is even more exciting is that in the last 3 years there has been a strong church-planting “boom” that has happened mainly through our cell leaders from the “mother church”. Now, there are 34 new church plants… and we believe, that by God’s grace, this is just the beginning!
How did it happen?
- As I have shared previously, we encouraged our cell leaders to multiply their cell to a relative’s house in one of the rural villages. They understood that if they could multiply a cell in the city, they could also multiply that cell to a home outside of the city.
- Through our paid staff, we provide supervision and guidance to these new cells (which were actually new church-plants).
- As the senior pastor, I meet regularly with these missionaries (who are cell leaders from the “mother church”) together with their cell apprentices from the villages (who are the future leaders of the new church plant). At these meetings we equip and encourage these new leaders. Their testimonies and shared experiences inspire the other leaders that are also at this meeting.
- In December, towards the end of the year, we bring the leaders and members from the rural church plants to a big “World Missions Conference” held in the city and sponsored by the “mother church”. They come in their cars; and the ones that don’t have their own vehicles will come in rented buses. At this big missions conference the members from the “mother church” and rural churches are challenged to get even more involved in local, regional, and world missions.
The most exciting part of the conference is when the people from the different rural new church-plants all parade through the multitude with flags and banners with the names of the various villages represented by them. It is a big “Great Commission Celebration”!!

Iniciando la misión de un Movimiento de Plantación de Iglesias

Hace cinco años cuando me mudé con un equipo de aproximadamente 35 parejas y muchos jóvenes de la ciudad de Fortaleza para plantar una gran iglesia celular, ya sabíamos que nuestro objetivo también incluía a partir de pequeñas iglesias celulares en las zonas rurales pobres del Norte la región oriental de Brasil.
Nos dimos cuenta de que para tener un fuerte movimiento continuo de plantación de iglesias, tendríamos que tener una “iglesia madre” sana que aumentaría en marcha los buenos líderes, a través, del sistema celular y proporcionando el financiamiento inicial para dar apoyo a la nueva iglesia a plantar.
La Fortaleza “iglesia madre” es ahora de 5 años de edad, con 460 células. Pero lo que es aún más emocionante es que en los últimos 3 años ha habido una fuerte plantación de iglesias “boom” que ha ocurrido principalmente, a través, de nuestros líderes de células de la “iglesia madre”. Ahora, hay 34 nuevas iglesias plantadas… y creemos que por la gracia de Dios, esto es sólo el principio!
¿Cómo sucedió?
Como ya he compartido previamente, animamos a nuestros líderes de células que multipliquen sus células a la casa de un familiar en uno de los pueblos rurales. Ellos entendieron que si podían multiplicar una célula en la ciudad, también podían multiplicar la célula de una casa en las afueras de la ciudad.
A través de nuestro personal contratado, que proporciona la supervisión y orientación a estas nuevas células (que eran en realidad una nueva iglesia plantada).
Como el pastor, yo regularmente me reúno con los misioneros (que son líderes de células de la “iglesia madre”), junto con sus aprendices de células de los pueblos (que son los futuros líderes de la iglesia nueva). En estas reuniones equipamos y animamos a estos nuevos líderes. Sus testimonios y experiencias inspiran a los otros líderes que también estén en esta reunión.
En diciembre, hacia el final del año, llevamos a los líderes y miembros de las nuevas iglesias del área rural a una gran “Conferencia Mundial de las Misiones”, celebrado en la ciudad y patrocinado por la “iglesia madre”. Ellos vienen en sus autos, y los que no tienen sus propios vehículos vienen en autobuses alquilados. En esta gran conferencia de misiones los miembros de la “iglesia madre” y las iglesias rurales tienen el reto de conseguir aún más personas en las misiones locales, regionales y mundiales.
La parte más emocionante de la conferencia es cuando la gente de las diferentes nuevas iglesias rurales desfilen juntos, a través, de la multitud con banderas y pancartas con los nombres de los distintos pueblos que representan. Se trata de una gran “Fiesta de la Gran Comisión”!
