Where You Look for “What’s Next” Matters

I just want to give you something to chew on today.  It may not seem to be a big thing.  It certainly doesn’t look like a big thing.  Just 14 words.

“You cannot look in a new direction by looking harder in the same direction.” Edward de Bono, Lateral Thinking

I’ve said more than once that different leads to a church OF groups and that different, not better, will connect the widening 60% who will never be reach by the attractional model.  We’ve even talked about the fact that the well-worn path never arrives at a new destination.

Today, I just want to push you to begin intentionally thinking about what’s next in grouplife.  You can begin by writing out Edward de Bono’s quote on a post-it.  Put the post-it where you can see it when you’re doing your planning.  Put it in the middle of the table when you’re in your team meeting.  Let these 14 words become part of the way you think about what’s next.

Looking harder is not the solution.  The idea that connects beyond the usual suspects comes from a different direction.
