Warning: These 5 Shortcuts Impact Results

I’m often asked to consult with churches about the design and launch of a church-wide campaign.  There’s a best way to do it.  There’s a strategy that has maximum impact.  It takes commitment, preparation and attention to detail.

Design and launch the right way…and big impact is likely.  Take a shortcut or two…and you can expect minimal impact.

It’s amazing how often these 5 shortcuts are proposed:

• Reserve a single weekend to recruit new small group hosts (as opposed to recruiting hosts over a three weekend recruiting effort).  See also, Why You Must Make the Host Ask Three Weekends in a Row.

• Recruit new small group hosts using an announcement in the service (as opposed to embedding the recruiting effort into the sermon).  See also, How to Make the Small Group Ask.

• Recruit new small group hosts while the senior pastor is on vacation (as opposed to leveraging the most influential voice in the congregation).  See also, Your Senior Pastor as Small Group Champion Leads to a Church OF Groups.

• Handpick new small group hosts from the usual suspects (instead of recruiting broadly with the “ask” embedded in the sermon).  See also, Host Recruitment and the Launch Sequence.

• Calendar the campaign message series to accomodate pre-existing commitments (pastor out of town, missions week, student week, etc.).
