Hey Mr. Seth Godin, I Find Inspiration Everywhere, Including TV!

Seth Godin posited that ideas simply do not come from watching television and I can categorically reject that sentiment 110%.

I’ll admit that it’s quite possible that I may be missing something here because I can assume this idea comes from a much larger context, but I’ll take him at his word, as written (or blogged).

The thing is that I have found inspiration in nearly all forms of media; in fact, one of my tech startups a long time ago was directly related to something I saw on the TV and wish it was done better via an online medium.

Perhaps it’s a generational gap or difference. Or perhaps it’s a limited perspective on how different people are in terms of how they perceive information, generate ideas, and execute on them? Seth says at the end:

An idea must come from somewhere, because if it merely stays where it is and doesn’t join us here, it’s hidden. And hidden ideas don’t ship, have no influence, no intersection with the market. They die, alone.

Maybe the thought here is that what is shown on TV is in it’s “best form” possible and there is nothing that can be taken away from it? My ideas have come from the “boob tube” and I’ve “shipped.”

Love for some clarification Seth!
