Tweets Small Group Pastors and Leaders Might Be Able to Use… I Guess

I really like tweeting. Most often my tweets are thoughts that pop into my head about leadership and small group ministry. A few people have asked me if they could use some of these “fewer than 140 characters” with their small group ministry. For sure. Feel free. I don’t quite get it as, in most instances, all I’m doing is typing phrases that I use to think, then determine no one would want to hear.

If you can use any of them feel free. I thought I’d give you a list of some of them.

  • If there were a biblical small group on every street and cul-de-sac there would be no need for social services.
  • When you think your small group has lost its way, chart a path to a destination and take them there. This is leadership.
  • When your small group meets… Theology must prove the presence and power of God rather than threatening or questioning it.
  • If your small group is simply meeting but not journeying, guide them to the mysterious places where God is.
  • Small group leader… Standing alongside a small group member is more important than walking ahead of them.
  • When a brother falls into sin, the small group’s role is to help him climb out of it.
  • If two group members have a disagreement, that’s good news. You’ve created an environment where people can be honest.
  • Raising the bar of expectation isn’t the small group leader’s job, reveal God’s Words and the bar will raise itself.
  • If you ask your group a question & no one answers, wait. The aftermath of awkward silence is a well thought out answer.
  • When a small group leader is exhausted from leading the group’s apprentice is probably anticipating an opportunity to lead.
  • Leading a small group is time consuming, so is watching American Idol. It’s all about priorities.
  • Dreaming a dream 4 each group member u lead produces patience with them, adoration 4 them, n releases the potential n them
  • If an atheist, agnostic, Buddhist, or muslim joins your group, celebrate. If a legalistic Christian comes… pray.
  • When a majority of your small group doesn’t show up give your heart to the present minority.
  • Biblical discussions make disciples. Unresolveable doctrinal debates create a climate of confusion and dysfunction.
