One Of God’s Most Amazing Promises

I will make with them an everlasting covenant, that I will not turn away from doing good to them. (Jeremiah 32:40)

This is one of God’s most amazing promises.  Do you believe that God is continually doing good to you?  If you did, wouldn’t that make a huge difference in your attitude?

We tend to think God is blessing us when something obviously good happens, like when we get an unexpected bonus or our 4 year old obeys the first time we tell them to do something.  But we don’t tend to think God is blessing us when something “bad” happens to us.  Then our first thought can be why is this happening to me?  Or why would God do this to me?

In every affliction we should seek to thank the Lord for the good he is doing us. I’m not saying we should thank God for evil.  We don’t have to thank God for cancer or our teenager’s rebellion, but we can thank God for turning evil we endure to our good and his glory.

The reason God never ceases to do good to his children is because he’s redeemed us through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. He’s joined us to Christ and made us one with him.  Our heavenly Father now loves us as he loves his very own Son.  And just as he’ll never stop loving Jesus, he’ll never stop loving us who are one Christ.

Most of the time we’re unaware of all the good God does to us. But every second of every day, from the moment the alarm goes off in the morning, as we splash water on our face, drink our coffee and head off into traffic, or as we start another grueling day with the kids, all through the day till we fall into bed and all night as we sleep – God never ceases to do good to us.

While we go about our daily routines, God keeps our hearts beating, lungs breathing, and sustains every system in our bodies. He protects and delivers us from the schemes of the enemy, provides for us, and arranges our lives to make us more and more like Christ.

While we’re washing dishes or filling out a spread sheet, God is directing history, nations, weather, economies, and the hearts of all men for the good of his people.  While we’re watching TV or grabbing some things at the store, God is providentially arranging every detail of our lives in order to bless us.

Are you going through a trial right now? Keep asking God to sustain and deliver you.  But also thank him that he’s doing good to you.  Maybe you feel like your life is on hold. Maybe you just don’t see God doing anything in your life.  In faith, thank Jesus that he hasn’t turned from doing good to you.

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit,
Thank you for your everlasting covenant to never turn away from doing good me.
Thank you for all the good you are doing in my life right now
Thank you for doing good to me in every hard thing I face right now
And thank you most of all for saving me
And giving me an eternal hope.
