Humility.
It’s the last thing we want to pull off and the first thing God tells us to pull off.
Why is it so hard?
Because we as human beings, in our nature, want desperately to be loved.
And we believe that by our actions and accomplishments, we will be loved.
The thing is that is a load of crap.
Nothing you do in this lifetime will gain you enough favor in the eyes of those around you to fill your needs.
So I have an idea.
Let’s quit.
Scripture tells us in Isaiah 57:14-15 that God lives with the humble.
If this is the case, then I am assuming He has a hard time living with the proud.
Humility does not come without humbling ourselves first.
You can’t just wake up tomorrow and have humility.
You literally have to have an action before the outcome of humility.
And that action is humbling ourselves in the sight of the Lord.
Not in the sight of man.
But in the sight of the Lord.
In this world of social media, this has become a more and more difficult task.
I think there are some ways to seek true Biblical humility online.
Here are some ideas.
1. Point people to God more than you point people to yourself.
I know this may seem obvious, but it may be the most difficult action to pull off. Just go back and read your Twitter stream. I’m not saying you need to be a preacher on the corner of the street with a bullhorn, I’m just saying that Jesus made you as awesome as you are telling people you are. Give Him some credit for the love.
2. Dive into others’ online communities and stop begging people to simply be a part of yours.
This is a struggle. Especially in a world where there are seminars on how to build tribes and other awesomeness. But by sharing yourself in the digital spaces of others, you are lifting them up above yourself.
3. Use your platform to give voice to another.
Every month, I try to tell of another up and coming voice that I think people need to know of. I’ve seen others who I have given voice to actually outgrow my own voice online. This is a true test in humility, to continue to point to one who has outgrown your voice after the fact. But it is so worth it.
