Shane Everett Cites Bible Illiteracy as Problem Among Today’s Young Worship Leaders

Shane Everett of Shane & Shane fame sits down to answer the question “What is the greatest weakness you see among young worship leaders today?”

His answer refers to a problem we see cropping up more and more in our modern day: a lack of Bible literacy. Everett feels sometimes churches look for the wrong thing in a worship leader. “I think there’s been a tendency to…create a position in the church for a song leader more than a worship pastor.”

In the past decade, he’s seen a number of men, specifically, who have been elevated to a platform but who haven’t necessarily been trained in the word of God or in pastoral ministry.

“We have a bunch of people getting on stage, leading songs, without any context scripturally,” he says.
