A Charge to Alll Youth Pastors

Dear Youth Pastor,

When you look at a teen mom what do you think? Do you think, “What a horrible situation. God bless her” but then you move on and forget her? Do you say, “Wow, I got to talk about relationships and dating so I can protect our students who come to church from that?” Or maybe you just don’t even realize that they are everywhere in your community.

Did you know they are incredibly courageous?

Did you know they are beautiful?

Did you know they have a future wired by the King?

Did you know they are as capable as anyone else of achieving anything God wants them to achieve?

Did you know God loves them? Gave his life for them?

Did you realize they will have a child?

What will their child know of the world or Jesus?

Did you know if you reach her you also are potentially reaching their beautiful child?

Did you know she is lonely, afraid, worried, desperate, and wanting?

She wants to laugh, be loved, wanted, cared for, comforted, encouraged, talked to, prayed for, missed, and pursued without shame or reservation.

She will never come to your group. She will not be around. She can’t afford to be judged again, rejected, cast off, or ignored.

You have to do something. You can’t sit idle. Maybe you don;t have a clue where to start or what to do. I will talk to you. Teel you what I know. Work with you. Answer questions. I will share with you what has happened in NW Austin for teen moms and how we are chasing after God’s precious daughters through Younglives. I’m not trying to be cool or act as an expert… I am not.

I just know that you want to do something because you kept reading this post. You didn’t click away. You can call me and I will tell you how our youth ministry and churches in this area are working to help teen moms. It doesn’t happen overnight and yes, it is hard work. Find someone to delegate to or at least pray about what you will do. Skype: chadswanzy Twitter @chadswanzy Gmail: chad.swanzy
