How Do We Help Others Know God Using Questions (Part 1)?

I have been reading Randy Newman’s excellent awarding winning book on evangelism, called Questioning Evangelism: Engaging People’s Hearts the Way Jesus Did.  It contains great insight using questions to help people build relationships with others with great discussion and help them come to know Jesus as their Savior.

Here are my notes from Chapter 3: How do Questions Pave the Way to Answers?
Principle One: Reveille Precedes Revelation
Quote: “We must awaken people.”
Nonsense statements from unbelievers:
·      I think all religions are the same.
·      I think all people are basically good.
·      I would never tell anyone their religion is wrong.
Questions to ask:
·      “Really?”
·      “Why do you believe that?”
Principle Two: Some Things Can’t Be True
Quote: “All religions can’t be True (if they claim to be the only way).”

Questions to ask:
·      “Can you explain that to me?”
·      “Why do you believe that?”
Principle Three: Some Things Can Be Partially True
Quote: “When conceding that another religion contains truth, we can add the single-word question, So?”
Questions to ask:
·      “So?”
·      “What difference does that make that some truth exists in other religions?”
·      “Do you want to discover the whole Truth and not just partial truth?
Principle Four: Some Things Might Be True
Quote: “The message invariably gets distorted along the way…”
Questions to ask:
·      “How else could it have happened?”
·      “Is it possible…”
o      …Jesus rose from the dead?
o      …the Bible is not full of errors?
o      …Jesus was born of a virgin?
o      …Jesus is the only one way to get to God?
·      “If not, why do you believe that?”
·      “Would you like it if Jesus turned out to be the Lord?”
·      “Would you like if there turned out to be a God?
Principle Five: Somebody Sees the Whole Elephant or We can Know the Truth
Quote: “Many believe no religion can claim to have the whole truth.”
Questions to ask:
·      “How do you know that?”
·      “What makes you believe that?”
·      “What convinces you of that?”
·      “Where have you heard that?”
·      “What is the strongest case for that?”
·      “Has someone persuaded you of this perspective?”
What are some other questions you can ask to help people see God and expericnce Jesus as their Savior?
