Rx For A Healthy Youth Ministry

They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles.-Acts 2:42-43

We all know that a healthy body requires good nutrition, a proper diet, and plenty of exercise. (Even if we don’t always follow through on it!)

Do you think there is a prescription for a healthy youth group?

Are you feeding your students a well balanced approach to the Word or are they getting a steady dose of junk food? Luke described what the early church considered a good spiritual diet and that consisted of:

  • Studying the Apostle’s Teaching: We do this when we keep the Bible the main text for whatever we teach.
  • Fellowship: Actually being the body of Christ by ministering to needs and supporting brothers and sisters in Christ.
  • Breaking of Bread: Not only observing the Lord’s Supper, but simply hanging out and sharing fellowship over meals.
  • Prayer: Promoting private prayer and practicing public prayer.

Your spiritual life will improve as you put Luke’s plan into place in your personal life. Your youth ministry will grow strong when you keep these things as an important part of your ministry strategy.

Our prayer for you:
We pray that you would have a ministry that models Luke’s prescription from Acts 2. But we also pray that your personal life would reflect the same commitment to solid spiritual disciplines.
