As Faith Leaders Criticize CT Editorial, Subscriptions Surge

Appearing on Fox News, Faith & Freedom Coalition president Ralph Reed called CT “Christianity Yesterday,” adding, “You cannot imagine a publication more out of step with the faith community that it once represented.” Reed said Trump deserves honor and refuted claims that the president’s relationship with evangelical Christians is “transactional.”

Also on Fox News, Family Research Council president Tony Perkins asked if CT had condemned actions taken by the Obama administration, such as “refusing to uphold the Defense of Marriage Act, or forcing Christian-owned businesses to pay for birth control and abortion-inducing drugs.”

Last week, Perkins tweeted: “CT, like Pelosi, makes claims w/o evidence. We’ve heard this before. Christians should apply a biblical worldview, not a PC worldview, to the current political landscape.” He added that Trump’s “robust record on life & religious liberty speaks for itself.”

There seems to be some disagreement among CT founder Billy Graham’s descendants on whether or not the patriarch would have approved of the op-ed. Franklin Graham, son of Billy Graham, quickly expressed “disappointment” in the magazine for printing Galli’s editorial. But one of Billy Graham’s grandchildren, Jerushah Duford, calls the editorial “courageous.” She adds that her grandfather “believed that his role was to preach the gospel to the Right and to the Left.” Boz Tchividjian, grandson of Billy Graham, shared the CT article on Twitter and wrote “A heavy hearted bravo to CT! Well said on so many levels. I believe my grandfather would have had a similar perspective. Thank you.”
