‘I’m No Longer Your Concern’—Beth Moore on Her Inclusion in Report on ‘Doctrinal Drift’ in SBC

In addition to implying that the sex abuse crisis in the SBC had been overblown, the CBN report also said of author and pastor Tony Evans’ racial justice work, “[At] the age of 72, it’s essential to recognize that Evans lived during the era of Jim Crow. As a result, many of his presuppositions on these matters have been formed in experience rather than by Scripture.”

This statement was made in the context of criticizing former SBC president Ed Litton for partnering with Evans on the Unify Project, which is aimed at furthering racial reconciliation. The CBN feels the project too closely resembles CRT and thus should be rejected.  

Additionally, Mohler was spoken of at length in the report, which characterized him as a contributor to the SBC’s alleged laxity with regard to CRT and LGBTQ+ issues.

A number of commenters have pointed out the inconsistency of including a theologian who for decades has vocally advocated for conservative values across various publications and broadcasts—and who even recently suggested that failing to vote for conservative political candidates is tantamount to Christian unfaithfulness—in a document profiling “liberal drift.”
