ChinaAid’s Bob Fu and Family in Hiding After Harassment, Threats

This YouTube video shows Guo mentioning Fu on a list of people to target under the “kill cheaters” campaign. In a video posted the day after people showed up at Fu’s house on Sept. 26, Guo addresed Fu directly. The video’s translation reads, “We will send at least 100 to 200 comrades to your house tomorrow. We will see how much power you have in the U.S…..Once our comrades get to your house tomorrow, we will never retreat. We will not start another campaign until we are done with you.”

In another video, Guo threatened both Fu and Mayor Patrick Payton, saying, “We will thoroughly investigate Bob Fu…The mayor who claimed our comrades ‘terrorists’ is a [expletive]. We will make him pay a price.” Guo told Fu, “Your time as a pastor is over.” Fu has also posted what he says is a video showing protesters planning to harass him and to mislead the police.

It is, without a doubt, ironic that Bob Fu is being accused of being a Communist agent, given that he protested at Tiananmen Square in 1989 and was imprisoned in China in the late 90s for evangelizing. Fu actually came to the U.S. as a refugee and founded ChinaAid in order to fight for religious freedom in his homeland.

Daniel Stephens, lead pastor of Mid-Cities Church where Fu also pastors, published a statement categorically denouncing the accusations against the ChinaAid founder, saying,

As a licensed minister of the gospel, Bob has worked with multiple churches and denominations in the body of Christ to pray and advocate for those oppressed and imprisoned by the Communist Chinese Government for their faith. Beyond Bob’s responsibilities and mission, he has personally participated in our faith community. We have prayed, worshiped, fought, cried, and celebrated together. Bob’s humility and sincere faith are unequal among his contemporaries. His love for God, God’s Word, and God’s creation is evident in his tireless pursuit of justice for all.

Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ), who says he has known Fu for 22 years, also published a statement defending Fu, saying, “I am deeply concerned that since late September, Pastor Bob Fu, founder of the nonprofit ChinaAid, and his family have been the targets of outrageous slander, libel and intimidation by suspected members of the Chinese Communist Party, and their enablers, and are at grave risk of serious bodily harm.”

In a recent post about the situation, Fu said he has every intention of persevering despite these challenges:

Make no mistake, even now as the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) continues to test our freedom and challenge our way of life in America, their evil intents lurk at our doorsteps. This current well-funded, sophisticated, overtly organized, cross-continent campaign bears the gargantuan footprint of the CCP’s overseas operation. The CCP aims to silence our voice for freedom and destroy ChinaAid’s ability to walk with the persecuted faithful in China. Nevertheless, we will not permit these thugs to intimidate us. Rest assured, will continue to fight until we realize true religious freedom and rule of law.
