Steven Furtick Criticized for Promoting 16-Year-Old Son’s Rap Album About Violence, Sex, and Money

In one of the lines on the song, the young rapper suggests he killed someone who spoke a certain way to his “gang,” saying his victim “won’t be able to speak again.” Elijah also uses the slang term “spin the block,” implying that he only completed a drive-by gun shooting and then he circled back around to shoot up the same area to inflict more violent harm against others.

Elijah says he goes to parties where they are “sipping on Henny,” which is an abbreviation for the world’s most popular brand of Cognac. Rulsan was confused at to why a 16-year-old’s pastor’s son would say he’s attending parties and seems to be promoting underage drinking.

“Lick her one time, now she missed me,” was the next lyric Ruslan pointed out, which implies he had oral sex with a girl who now keeps calling his phone, but he doesn’t answer because he’s busy.

There are multiple references to excessive wealth throughout the song. Elijah talks about his designer clothing, diamond necklaces, breaking the bank, and turning heads when he walks in the bank.

It concerned Ruslan that a teenage kid of a megachurch pastor is bragging about how much money he has, which gives the appearance that it came at the expense of the church, and his father’s book sales and preaching engagements.

“I don’t blame [Elijah],” Ruslan said, revealing to his audience that the video was endorsed by his mother in the comments of her son’s Instagram page. “So proud of this project,” Holly wrote.

Ruslan shared that he reached out to Steven, Holly, and Elijah before making the video in an attempt to share his concerns regarding the lyrics in “NO HOOK!” but was blocked.

Furtick posted a letter to his son on social media telling him how Elijah inspires him and that he was proud of him for releasing his album.

The proud father briefly detailed how Elijah’s musical journey started, saying, “The day you showed me your first Garage Band Mark Ronson rip off beat, I saw the spark. Next came the obsession. You locked yourself away and taught yourself the intricacies of production and the basics of engineering.”

“A lot of nights I’d hear you coaching yourself in third person,” Furtick continued. “Patiently guiding yourself through the learning curve. I think you brought me a new beat to listen to every two hours that summer. I loved listening to every one, even though our tastes in music are separated by decades, I was fascinated by your attention to detail, your sonic instinct, and your commitment to your new craft.”
