Just One Chance

What if . . .  we approached every Sunday as if we had just one chance to impact the child or family that was attending?

What if . . . it was our only chance to make a first impression on the family down the road who’s been waffling about visiting our church, but have finally gotten up the courage to step through the doors and give it a try?

What if . . . it was our only chance to connect with Mom & Dad to engage them in the conversation about the role they play in the spiritual formation of their child, and how we can serve them in this role?

What if . . . it was our only chance to engage the child who has never been to church before, to communicate to them that we love them and care about them . . . and that we’re really not strange but are people just like they are?

What if . . . we had just one chance to share the life-saving power of the Gospel?

Guess what? You do have just one chance. At least that’s the way I believe we ought to approach our ministry.

If we did approach it this way:

• we would be fanatics about the environment that guests (and members!) walk in to every week.
• we would hinge our vision on the truth that Mom & Dad make the biggest difference in the spiritual formation of their child, and program accordingly.
• we would be passionate about making sure our teams are all about relationships instead of rules.
• we would place the Gospel front and center in every element of our worship experience.
• we would, above all else, prepare through prayer & serve through the power of the Holy Spirit – in essence, allow our service to flow from our relationship with God instead of the other way around.

So what if we had Just One Chance?
How would we approach this weekend differently?
Perhaps it’s worth considering that approach every week.
