Ed Stetzer Asked Pastors Share Their Most Embarrassing Baptism Experiences—The Responses Will Bring You to Tears 🤣

“I was pastoring a church start in PA so we had no building. One of our church families had an in-ground pool that we used for baptism. The people of the church gathered around the pool on a small hillside and the people being baptized were in the pool while I stood at the top of the steps addressing the congregation before I turned to get In the pool. As I stepped into the pool my feet slipped on the steps and I went completely under the water feet first, baptizing myself first. Ironically there is no real evidence of this because those who were preparing to video the baptism had not started recording yet. In spite of my ‘accident’ we were able to laugh it off and have a glorious baptism experience!”

“Did baptisms in the lake at teen camp. Had one girl yelling at me the whole time walking into the water, ‘IT’S COOOOLLLD! YOU LIED TO ME! IT’S COOOOLLLD!’ Note: it was a little cold, but didn’t bother other people.”

“I baptized an infant who was super gassy, kept farting on the palm of my hand. I was the only one who knew. I started to snicker, and then had to try to hold in laughter. (My inner 12 yr old was dying inside.) His mother was so angry at me—until I explained why.”

“The local school had two Russian exchange students. They stayed after graduation, got jobs and started attending our church. After a few weeks they accepted Christ as their savior. At baptism a few weeks later I told them simply they needed clothes to change into to be baptized. As they enter the baptistry all they have on are very short shorts. They are young, tan, muscles everywhere, with abs and everything. I think every lady in the church let out an audible Oooooo! They got lots of hugs after the service.”

“We run a campus ministry, and we baptize in the college pool. After baptizing those scheduled, I always ask—almost obligatorily—if anyone else wants to get baptized. An international student took me up on it once, and he stripped down to his underwear before the immersion.”
