Nails Used to Crucify Jesus Found?

Investigator and filmmaker Simcha Jacobovici will soon release a new documentary suggesting that his research has uncovered two of the actual nails used in the crucifixion of Christ. According to Canada.com, the two nails were found in Jerusalem in a tomb said to belong to the Jewish high priest Caiaphas, prompting debate in the scientific community, particularly in the Holy Land. Jacobovici said in an interview, “What we are bringing to the world is the best archaeological argument ever made that two of the nails from the crucifixion of Jesus have been found … since Caiaphas is only associated with Jesus’ crucifixion, you put two and two together and they seem to imply that these are the nails.” But most experts have refuted the case, saying nails are commonly found in tombs, and it was never proven that the particular tomb where the nails were found belonged to Caiaphas. The Israel Antiquities Authority said in a statement about the find, “There is no doubt that the talented director Simcha Jacobovici created an interesting film with a real archaeological find at its centre, but the interpretation presented in it has no basis in archaeological findings or research.” Regardless, Jacobovici film, The Nails of the Cross, will air on the History Channel on April 20.
