SBC "Cannot Commend" the New NIV Bible

June 23, 2011

The Associated Baptist Press reported that the Southern Baptist Convention has officially decried the 2011 edition of the New International Version of the Bible, saying it retains far too much gender-neutral language that isn’t in the original text. The SBC penned a resolution expressing “profound disappointment” in publishers Zondervan and Biblica, going so far as calling their translation an “inaccurate translation of God’s inspired Scripture,” asking their resource company, LifeWay, not to sell the translation in their stores, and encouraging pastors to make their congregations aware of the concerns. The SBC also denounced the 2002 Today’s New International Version for similar reasons.

Will your church use the 2011 NIV? Why or why not?
