The Elephant in the Pew

We’ve got a love-hate relationship with elephants.  Purple, pink, black-n-white striped… whatever the color we love to talk about the elephant, blog about the elephant, even compose whole sermon series on the elephant… but how many of us are prepared to face the elephant nose-to-trunk and take care of it?

I don’t know.  But Scott Williams is launching a movement that just might.

My friend, Scott Williams, has launched his new book Church Diversity.  You should get it.  You should read it.  You should pass it along.

You see, Scott has a driving passion to see the Church be a true reflection of God’s creation.  In fact, an early quote form the book,

“Church diversity on the surface may not initially seem like a felt need for everyone. If we dig down deep below the surface and get to the root of the matter, we should understand that ‘reaching all people for Christ’ must be a felt need for the Church, and it can be a beautiful reality.”

I’m honored to say I know Scott Williams.  Having the opportunity to work with him, he’s been personal encourager in my corner for a long time.  If there is one thing I’ve learned from Scott, it’s that life is all about taking risks.  Calculated risks.

And one thing Scott Williams is great at is calculated risks.  Stepping boldly into the ministry arena and bringing the conversation of diversity to the forefront is not surprising.  He’s that kind of leader.

If there is one book to read this summer it’s Church Diversity.  But beware… it will challenge you far beyond the point of  comfort.
