Matthew McConaughey on Joe Rogan Goes Viral

“I have had moments when I was on stage receiving an award in front of my peers in Hollywood and there were people in the crowd that I have prayed with before dinners, many times,” he says. “And when I thank God, I saw some of those people go to clap, but then notice that—woah, woah—this could be a bad thing on my resume, and then sit back on their hands.”

Apparently, the pressure avoid being even linked to a Christian in someway can be a problem because of Hollywood’s intolerance of Christianity.

McConaughey explained, “I’ve seen people read the room and go, ‘That wouldn’t bode well for me in the future—if for getting a job or getting votes—um, I have seen that. I’ve witnessed it. I don’t judge them for it. I just wish, you know, that…it seems like a silly argument.”

But the peer pressure is real and it deters some, and even can real some into the same type of thinking and behavior.

“There’s some that go to the left, so far as our friend, Jordan Peterson, who is back…” McConaughey on Joe Rogan begins to say they “go to the liberal, left side so far that he’s so condescending and patronizing to 50 percent of the world that need the empathy that liberal side gives and should give.”

McConaughey explains the sadness of it, “To illegitimatize someone because they say they are a believer is just so arrogant, and in some ways hypocritical to me.”

An interesting part that the two discuss is, Matthew McConaughey has become famous enough that he has a greater ability to speak his mind and share his belief.

“It’s not a place where Christian fundamental values are espoused openly,” Rogan point out and then recognizes that despite that, Matthew McConaughey seems to get away with it. The 52-year-old actor from Uvalde, Texas is one of the top actors in the world, according to IMBD. His clout, in a way, gives him the power to talk about his Christian faith on Joe Rogan’s show, or anywhere else for that matter.

Hopefully he’ll continue to speak openly about his faith and more actors will have the courage to do so, too.
