15-Year-Old Orphan Begs for Adoption from Pulpit

A young teen entered the pulpit at St. Mark Missionary Baptist in St. Petersburg, Fla., and asked if anyone in the congregation would be interested in adopting him. According to the Naples Daily News, orphan Davion Navar Henry Only, 15, came up with the idea of soliciting parents from the pulpit of the local  church with the help of his case worker, Connie Going. Clad in a black suit and carrying his Bible, Davion was introduced to the 300-member congregation by the pastor after he spoke about the “alarming numbers of African-American children who need us” and how Jesus lifted up orphans. Davion then addressed the church himself: ”My name is Davion and I’ve been in foster care since I was born … I know God hasn’t given up on me. So I’m not giving up either.”

”He’s come a long way,” said Floyd Watkins, program manager at Davion’s group home, which cares for troubled foster kids. “He’s starting to put himself out there, which is hard when you’ve been rejected so many times.”

”I’ll take anyone,” Davion told the local news outlet. “Old or young, dad or mom, black, white, purple. I don’t care. And I would be really appreciative. The best I could be.”

So far, two families have inquired after Davion, but none have come forward to adopt him.
