Living in the Dirt

Guest Post by Mitchell Green

So many times I find myself forgetting why I want to do ministry.

So much that I sometimes question why God called me to this.

During these times I become so focused on getting my name out there as a future pastor, being in on big meetings, or just focusing on my future in general .

During our trip to Kings Island I was sitting and talking with Shane Combs, the youth pastor at Emmanuel, and the person I intern for. We talked about a concept of living in the dirt.

God calls us to live in the dirt when we do ministry.  This means that sometimes we need to stop being so focused on the vision for our Ministry, and actually start ministering. This can mean so many things, like taking your youth group from a service for students to come to, to a ministry where you are meeting your students needs every day, or just trying to get off the church campus and getting involved in there lives.

I think this is one of those things that looks different for every one. Obviously I focused on this from the lens of the pastor, but don’t read this and think that you have to be a pastor for this message to mean anything to you. We all have moments in our life where we forget why God has us there in the first place. It is then that we need to ask ourselves are we living in the dirt?
