Derek was born and raised in Etowah County, Alabama and earned a Bachelors in Psychology from Jacksonville State University, a Masters of Divinity from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Ph.D. in Church Leadership from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. After planting Christ Centered Church in Miami for six years, Derek and his family moved to Mobile, Alabama to pastor at First Baptist Tillman's Corner.
