This week our goal is to spark discussion about Evangelizing Children. As I shared yesterday I have occasionally found myself attending events where the “Decision Time” or “Altar Call” for children makes me uncomfortable. In my opinion the “how-to” of this critical moment is of paramount importance.
When we as pastors, leaders and parents present the Gospel we must be careful of how we lead children to a decision. Most children by nature want to please adults and our words along with our expectations can cause a child to say what they believe we want to hear. We must remember it is totally a Holy Spirit moment when anyone accepts Christ as Savior.
In yesterday’s discussion my friend, James, made this statement:
“The longer I am in ministry, the more I am weighing the issue of is it more about the ‘prayer’ or the process/journey of coming to Christ?”
How would you respond to that?
Also, as we talk about Evangelism I am reminded of one of my favorite tools – The Wordless Book. It is a simple visual that helps communicate some critical concepts. The Wordless Book is said to have first been used by Charles Spurgeon in 1866 at the Metropolitan Tabernacle in London. He used a piece of black paper, red paper and white paper to share God’s plan for salvation. The black page represented sin, the red represented Christ’s blood shed for him, and the white page represented the cleansing of his sins he received through Christ’s sacrifice.
What are some of your favorite tools that you use to communicate the Gospel clearly?
