Genuine Gratitude

On the eve of Thanksgiving, I am enjoying thinking through all of the many ways I am grateful. In the midst of the food, football, family, and friends, be sure to take the time to thank God for all the good things you have in your life.

A real perspective shift came for me when a leader at Mosaic walked me through theCharacter Matrix in 1996. In the same weekend he was commissioned along with his wife to serve the people of Africa, he explained to me that the path out of greed is gratitude and that gratitude means being “thankful for what you have and not mad about what you don’t have.”

What a great definition!

Sometimes I mix being thankful for what I have along with a sense of a dissatisfaction for what I don’t have. That isn’t genuine gratitude.

When I find myself in a funk, I pull out my gratitude list. I am grateful for my wife, my kids, my parents who are driving to be with us over the next, for my extended family, for my Mosaic community, for my friends, for our freedom and opportunity in the USA, and for my relationship with Jesus.

Do you have a gratitude list? For what are you grateful?
