Letter #1 From the Kind of People Who Sit in our Church Each Sunday

This is an excerpt from an email that I received recently. I can’t share all of these, but from time to time I get so moved at the Good Shepherd’s pursuit of people here I just have to share. I am greatly humbled and honored to be a part of this with you all. I shared this first at vision night on August 23rd, but I wanted to encourage those of you who were unable to attend.

This person describes herself as being far from God even though she grew up going to church:

“I was at a place where I needed not just sermons, I needed friendship. I found friendship immediately at the Summit. Also, for the first time at Summit I understood the message. Previously being in church had been like being in a circle where everyone was speaking a foreign language and they all knew it except for me.  But it was the opposite at the Summit. In fact, I often feel as if you are singling me out; I am overwhelmed with emotion at the message, and I ALWAYS learn from it.

Never in my life until about the 3rd time I attended your church, have I EVER raised up my hands and sang. For some reason, it is the first time I gave no thought or concern for the imperfection of my voice. This may be trivial and insignificant to you (J.D. says: Actually, it is not!), but I am recognizing that these babysteps are telling me I am in the right place and maybe I am finally home. I want to in the very near future be baptized at Summit as someone who can say with belief and trust in all my heart the words that I have heard the others say as they were baptized.”

I’ll post a few more in the near future. If you have a story, we’d love to hear from you!
