Multiplying cell groups holds to a long-term view of expanding the influence of God’s kingdom on earth. Placing our focus farther out keeps us balanced in the near-term. In Hebrews 12:1-2 we are exhorted to run with endurance the race that is set before us – that means it is a longer race than just today or even this year. How will we maintain this long-distance running? By laying aside every weight and the sin which so easily ensnares us, ridding ourselves of excess baggage; to do lists, busywork and endless details that sap our strength.
We must also, as verse 2 instructs, LOOK to Jesus! Expanding the original text we find this means giving our undivided attention, looking away from all distractions in order to fix one’s gaze on one object; Jesus, and the continuance of His kingdom to every generation, not just next week’s time frame. In order to organize our efforts to accomplish this long-term view, we must develop new leaders as quickly as possible to penetrate every segment of society with the gospel. Cells are the track for developing new runners and our equipping of those runners is accomplished via the training track.
Cells breed new leaders, new leaders form new cells by penetrating their circles of influence and the cycle repeats.
