This is what the next generation wants. True joy. Lasting joy. Young people want the joy of being anchored to the solid, dependable Rock. When everything else in life proves false or fails, they want to be able to rely on Christ and his Word. And that’s not only what the next generation wants. It’s what all generations want.
Savor Scripture
In a time when new and impossible challenges seem to keep popping up, Ecclesiastes 1:9 reminds us, “There is nothing new under the sun.” The modern challenges we encounter are just variations of the same old problems. Yet God and his church have always prevailed—and always will (Matthew 16:16-19). Satan, the enemy of our souls, has always been lying to us (John 8:44), even as he varies his tactics. And the world around us has always been actively distracting our minds and hearts (Romans 3:23).
Here’s my encouraging news for church leaders: Gen Alpha and those who follow aren’t new territory for evangelism. They are still people in need of a Savior. They’ll still try to fill that God-shaped void with various doomed-to-fail “solutions.” And Christians are the ones who have what (Who) they need.
As we aim to reach the next—and all—generations with the ancient yet eternally impactful truth of the Gospel, our path is simple (not easy, but simple). This is the path: Devour Scripture. As you read it, look for God. Behold him. Be in awe of him. Praise him. And watch every generation take notice, to the glory of God and the joy of his people.
