After a terrible fall in September, Christian author and speaker Christopher Yuan was left paralyzed from the neck down. His mother, Angela, has posted about his traumatic and trying journey—often asking for prayers. On Monday, Sept. 29, an update on Yuan’s X account requested prayer for Yuan’s fellow patient, David, with whom Yuan shared the good news of Jesus.
“God opened an incredible door for the gospel,” the update said.
Christopher Yuan Never Saw David’s Face as Yuan Shared the Gospel
Yuan has been an adjunct instructor of the Bible at Moody Bible Institute for more than a decade. He has also written books on biblical sexuality, including, “Giving a Voice to the Voiceless” and “Holy Sexuality and the Gospel: Sex, Desire, and Relationships Shaped by God’s Grand Story.”
Yuan wrote “Out of a Far Country: A Gay Son’s Journey to God. A Broken Mother’s Search for Hope,” based on his own family’s story. The book “speaks to prodigals, parents of prodigals, and those wanting to minister to the gay community.”
Just a day after his fall, Yuan was scheduled for surgery to insert a rod, and the doctors were hopeful for a positive outcome.
After a successful operation, Yuan was reported to be moving his arms and legs.
Yuan’s injury and subsequent surgery were quite traumatic, so the author spent significant time in the ICU recovering. Yuan asked people to “pray that through this situation many more people will come to know Jesus and the gospel!”
God answered Yuan’s prayers in the middle of the night—in the ICU.
While in the ICU, Yuan shared a room with a young man named David. Their beds were separated by just a sheet, allowing room for nurses and medical staff to tend to the patients.
“God opened an incredible door for the gospel,” said the update on Yuan’s X account. “In the middle of the night – around 2:00 a.m. – Christopher began sharing his testimony and the good news of Jesus with his suite mate.”
The update went on to describe how Yuan continued to share, while David asked “thoughtful” questions, for three hours.
