“And his message is not unique to him either,” Burleson added, noting that this line of reasoning was present among the founders of “the religious right in the early 70s when a group of preachers decided to take on the highest courts in the land because they wanted to make sure that their private Christian white schools remained—you guessed it—white.”
“Because there was no government in the world that could tell them to do something that violated their Christian values that said, ‘Whites and Blacks should remain separate, distinct,’” Burleson said.
“Listen, we will never heal from stuff like this, from this sin, until we name it for what it is: sin,” Burleson urged, “and call it out every time we see it. This has gotta happen.”
Burleson’s video has been viewed more than 340,000 times and has received more than 4,700 comments. The full sermon video has since been removed from Faith Baptist Camp’s YouTube page.
A number of commenters noted that Jones delivered his remarks about keeping white and Black cultures separate in a cadence that is widely regarded as having originated in the Black church.

In a comment given to Local 3 News, Burleson said, “That’s part of the problem: the way in which white culture has taken these things without any proper cultural accreditation. This is another way in which we have stolen from the Black culture.”
