Vance added that “as a practicing Catholic, I was actually heartbroken by that statement.”
“And I think that the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops needs to actually look in the mirror a little bit and recognize that when they receive over $100 million to help resettle illegal immigrants, are they worried about humanitarian concerns?” Vance continued, apparently referring to Trump’s suspension of USRAP. “Or are they actually worried about their bottom line? We’re going to enforce immigration law. We’re going to protect the American people.”
Vance went on to say that if the leaders of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops “worried about the humanitarian costs of immigration enforcement,” then they should focus on “the children who have been sex trafficked because of the wide open border of Joe Biden” and other crimes such as the murder of Laken Riley at the hands of an undocumented immigrant.
“I support us doing law enforcement against violent criminals, whether they’re illegal immigrants or anybody else, in a way that keeps us safe,” Vance said. Of the Trump administration’s executive order to remove protections for houses of worship against ICE raids, Vance said, “We empowered law enforcement to enforce the law everywhere.”
“I think the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has, frankly, not been a good partner in common sense immigration enforcement that the American people voted for, and I hope, again, as a devout Catholic, that they’ll do better,” Vance said.
Other Christians Push Back on Trump’s Immigration Policies
Other Christian groups continue to urge President Trump to reconsider his immigration policy, including world humanitarian organization World Relief.
In a statement signed by the heads of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics and Religious Liberties Commission, the National Association of Evangelicals, and Open Doors, World Relief argued that Trump’s immigration policies could hinder Christians around the world who are fleeing persecution.
“The U.S. refugee resettlement program is a longstanding legal immigration process that also advances another value that President Trump has indicated is a high priority, protecting persecuted Christians and others fleeing religious persecution,” the statement said.

“Indeed, individuals persecuted for their faith in repressive countries who have been invited to experience religious and economic freedom in our great country are among the most grateful, America-loving individuals in the world,” the statement added.
