Courtney Fischer, a district attorney’s office spokesperson, told Houston Public Media that the case will be presented to a grand jury on an undisclosed date.
“Grand juries meet every so often,” Fischer said. “We never publicize exactly what cases go when. We don’t want it to taint a grand jury pool.”
More specifically, the case has been handed over to the Civil Rights Division of the district attorney’s office, something Fischer said is customary for cases in which law enforcement officers discharge their weapon.
“There is no time limit on investigations,” said Shay Awosiyan, a Houston Police Department spokesperson. “These investigations are fluid.”
