“To that I would say that there’s no such thing as a good person,” Huff said. “All good people go to heaven; that’s clear biblically. But Jesus says no one is good but God.”

“There’s no such thing as an innocent person, in that I deserve hell,” Huff said, pointing to himself. “Me, Wes Huff—I deserve hell, 100% of the time.”

“So I think the answer is that we are both worse than we realize and have the potential to do much more good than we realize. However, I am not going to heaven because of anything I’ve done. I can’t do that,” said Huff. “It’s not about what I’m doing. It’s about what Jesus did.”

Schulz replied, “I get that it’s supposed to alleviate [our burden]. But in order to alleviate it, you first have to accept that you’re a piece of s**t.” He continued, “And what if you don’t feel like you’re a piece of s**t? So now I have to stop feeling good about myself. I have to convince myself that I am a piece of s**t…just so God can get me back to feeling good about myself.”

“It’s not simply that you are a piece of s**t. I think if it was that, then I think we would have a problem,” Huff responded. Referring to the creation account in Genesis, Huff said, “You are created with purpose and meaning and intention and it is good. You actually bear the image of God, and there’s something about that that’s special.”

“So, in one sense, you’re more of a piece of s**t than you could imagine, but also you’re more loved and more capable of amazing things than you could imagine,” Huff said. “And that’s the dichotomy of Christianity.”
