Wright pointed to the story of Zacchaeus, whose “encounter with Jesus” transformed his life. Wright said, “Sometimes, that transformation is very slow and very subtle. Sometimes, it’s quite vivid and instantaneous.”
“I’m not saying that there needs to be a transformation in this particular person’s case. I’m saying that pastoral help on hand, wise, discerning, prayerful pastoral help is the vital thing to find the way forward,” said Wright. “It will not be easy, but I do believe that there will be a way forward.”
