“Only the Word of God and a relentless faithfulness to preaching the Word and Christ crucified gets you through 42 years of faithful ministry in a pulpit,” said Schillero.

Schillero went on to praise the Parkside Church congregation for its “expectation” and “appetite not for a messenger but for a message; not for a person but for a gospel.”

“And for me, as a successor, to stand in this place and know that our congregation comes with the expectation that you bring your Bible and that we open our Bibles, that we look to our Bibles, and there we find Jesus, there is no greater gift that I could receive,” Schillero continued.

“I want to invite you, solicit your critique and your criticism of my preaching—but under one condition,” Schillero said, “that the rubric you use to grade my preaching is a biblical one.”
