Family strengthening is the holistic care of a family through education, access to social support services and medical care, financial empowerment, housing opportunities, training and more. This type of care allows families to stay together, and for children in the orphanage to return to a safe and loving home. As a church, we can intentionally partner with these efforts.
Our international brothers and sisters internationally already know what needs to be done to help build stronger families in their communities, and they know best how to do it. It’s our task now to empower and support them.
Organizations such as Cherish Uganda and Global Child Advocates are already doing this. Through their tangible and spiritual support of families, parents are empowered. These efforts are creating impactful and lasting generational change for the entire community.
While international adoption rates have dropped significantly in the last decade, the children currently in orphanages who have family and are not eligible for adoption still need our help. This National Adoption Month, as we turn our attention to supporting children in strong families, anyone who is part of the body of Christ can help make tremendous strides towards returning children to their existing families if they’ve been separated.
Through all of us working together, God will in fact put the lonely in families.
