4) God Has Wisdom for Their Lives Right Now.
Our kids live in a world where they’re likely going to be faced with different worldviews about sex, sexuality, and gender from an early age. Maybe they’ll hear their peers claim that boys rule over girls and can treat them however they want, or maybe they’ll have a teacher in a same-sex marriage, or maybe someone will ask them a question like, “What are your pronouns?”
Instead of these moments filling us and our kids with fear and uncertainty, we can embrace our kids’ questions as opportunities to learn God’s wisdom together. Our responsibility to disciple our kids in God’s ways and lay gospel foundations under their feet doesn’t start when our kids turn 13. It starts the moment they’re born.
Of course, you know your own kids’ maturity level better than anyone else. You get to discern how and when they’re ready to hear what they need to hear. But I encourage you not to wait as long as you might wish you could.
If you want to learn more about how to disciple your kids with age-appropriate gospel wisdom so that they can have Christlike confidence to navigate some of the most challenging questions they’ll face, I hope you’ll check out a new video discipleship course called “Christian Sexuality: Raising Kids.” John Mark Comer, Jackie Hill and Preston Perry, Dr. Dan Allender, Jon Tyson, and many more wise voices offer practical wisdom and real-life stories to help you begin these crucial conversations in your own family.
Our kids have questions. The world is ready with its answers. Are we?
