In July 2021 Stewart Ruch III, bishop of the Anglican Church in North America's (ACNA) Upper Midwest Diocese, went on leave after making what he called “regrettable errors” in handling cases of abuse in the diocese. Of late Ruch has struck a less than penitent tone.

On Tuesday, a group of self-identified survivors and advocates who attended an Anglican church in Washington, D.C., published an open letter saying diocesan leaders mishandled their allegations of spiritual abuse.

At least four self-identified survivors of abuse by Mark Rivera, a former Anglican Church of North America lay minister, spoke out against ACNAtoo, the anti-abuse advocacy group that has advanced charges against Rivera since last year.

Three members of the group overseeing the investigation into sexual abuse allegations in the Anglican Church in North America resigned Monday, saying that the team “downplayed or ignored” abuse survivors’ needs.
