The North American thing to do is to think positive and charge ahead. But the biblical thing to do is to lament. The book of Psalms has 150 psalms in it. Out of the 150 psalms, the greatest number — 40% — are psalms of lament.

Lament demonstrates a concern for our neighbors even if the issue doesn’t directly affect everyone.

Lament should be your prayer when grief—of any kind—becomes a part of your life.

The great lesson of a little-read passage in the Old Testament prophet Micah teaches us that lament is a very good thing.
