In an Executive Committee meeting, Joe Knott expressed that he is “terrified” at the thought of the SBC implementing policies “to protect children or women,” policies he believes will leave the SBC legally exposed.

Georgia pastor and former SBC Executive Committee chairman Mike Stone has been accused of helping cover up the misconduct of another Georgia pastor. Stone denies the allegations. 

“This is a new day in the Executive Committee of the Southern Baptist Convention,” said committee chairman, Rolland Slade in a video meeting Tuesday. “And our commitment is to be different.”

On Tuesday, Tom Ascol weighed in with his initial reflections regarding the Guidepost Solutions report about the Executive Committee's handling of sexual abuse allegations.

The Guidepost Solutions report investigating the SBC EC revealed that over the course of two decades, the SBC systematically and consistently ignored, silenced, and at times even ostracized survivors of sexual abuse.

Chairman Rolland Slade announced Monday (April 18) that the SBC Executive Committee will hold a special called meeting Thursday, April 28.

This weekend was the last of Black History Month in 2022. It was also the SBC's annual Racial Reconciliation Sunday, which drew sharp criticism from some SBC leaders, including the Conservative Baptist Network.

Officers of the SBC Executive Committee will meet with EC vice presidents by the end of January, with a recommendation for one of them to serve as interim president coming at the EC's February meeting.
