Words to Describe Church: Essential Adjectives for Your Youth Ministry

3. Missional

I want every event and activity we do to have purpose behind it. I’m so far past doing events because we’ve always done them. No, this year I want to hold events with purpose. If we do an event simply because we’ve always done it, and it has no purpose, then that isn’t being missional. Call yourself traditional. I’m fine with traditions, as long as they have meaning and purpose behind them.

4. Open

If you truly embrace the other three words to describe church, this one will follow. As for me, I want our youth ministry open to outcasts of the community. If Jesus were in a church here, I feel it would be the most culturally diverse church on the planet. That’s because He is not a respecter of persons.

I want our youth ministry to accept every race there is. I’d like our church and student ministry to accept the poor, the middle class, as well as the rich. Basically, I want it to be open for the kids who are just plain weird. Jesus loves everyone equally, and I feel more than ever that we should as well.
