3. Opportunity
This is less for someone who’s been in youth ministry and more for the person who’s just starting out or deciding if it’s a field they want to enter.
But first let me say this. A need for more youth workers always exists. And you will always have an opportunity to pour into teenagers’ lives. If you’ve been in youth ministry for a while and are questioning whether or not God still wants you to serve, just know that opportunities are always available. They may not be at your current church, or even in the “type” of church you want to be at. But opportunities never disappear for a youth worker.
If you’re just starting out and trying to determine your calling, what opportunities are in front of you right now? What needs currently exist in your context? How can you fill a specific need in youth ministry tomorrow?
That is a huge determining factor: Is an opportunity available? Think about the first two points, and if those match up I would encourage you to take that opportunity!
These are a few ways I know I’m called to youth ministry. Here are a few questions to ask yourself if you’re starting out OR trying to determine if youth ministry is still your calling.
- Why do you want to be in youth ministry?
- Would you feel fulfilled while doing something else?
- What opportunities are in front of you right now?
