As Rear Adm. Margaret Grun Kibben, the chaplain to the U.S. House of Representatives, made her way through the echoing halls of the U.S. Capitol Wednesday (Jan. 6), she could feel a charge of anticipation in the air.

Pope Francis changed church law Monday to explicitly allow women to serve as lectors during Mass, granting them access to the most sacred place on the altar, while continuing to affirm that they cannot be priests.

Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-DE) shouted out a prayer as she and other lawmakers took shelter while rioters broke through police barriers and into the Capitol building last week.

In response to weeks of reaction to a statement denouncing critical race theory and a request for a meeting from the SBC’s National African American Fellowship, the denomination's seminary presidents and fellowship leaders met on Wednesday (Jan. 6).

The D.C. protest turned riot caught many by surprise, including some Christians who showed up for prayer events. Others, including Christians who also showed up for prayer events, were not so surprised.

The Capitol Hill church, at Fifth Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, is about five blocks away from the riots that broke out at the U.S. Capitol building on Wednesday.
