5. Flashlight Easter Egg Hunt Idea
Here is another idea you can use at night with kids and families. Encourage each family to bring their own flashlights to your hunt. Assign different color eggs to different age groups to take away some of the competition from this night hunt. Also, make sure to hide enough gold Easter eggs so there is one for each family. In the gold egg, include a short family devotion card that encourages families read John 8:12 “Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” Share with families that the flashlight helps them find eggs tonight, but Jesus is the light of the world and He brings us from darkness and gives the light of life.
6. GPS Easter Egg Hunt Idea
Sure the young kids like to run in an open field and find eggs, but often older kids feel “too cool” to participate. By setting up a GPS eggs hunt you can challenge the family to work together including older kids. Place a different staff member with a large bin or kiddie pool of eggs in different places in your city, neighborhood, or church campus. (You will want to get permission from public places.) When families arrive, give them a card with the GPS coordinates of the locations of the eggs. Using their GPS enabled smartphone, a handheld gps, or cheap handheld GPS coordinator trackers provided by you, families will travel together to find eggs. (The Apple iPhone Compass App give degrees, minutes and seconds.) Once they have arrived they will either hear the testimony or a devotion from the staff member at each location. Set a time for families to return to the church for a closing meal and give out prizes for families that found all the clues first.
