7. Forgetting That Pastors Also Need Accountability

Respect for leadership sometimes leads people to assume pastors are above correction.

Concerns are withheld because “they’re the leader.” Feedback feels inappropriate. Accountability structures exist on paper but are rarely used.

Biblical leadership is accountable leadership.

Pastors, like all believers, grow best when they are known, challenged, and supported by others who are willing to speak truth in love.

A Healthier Way to Follow a Pastor

Following a pastor does not mean surrendering discernment, conscience, or responsibility.

It means honoring their role while remembering who the true Head of the Church is. It means supporting leadership without idolizing it. It means trusting God enough to stay engaged, thoughtful, and spiritually awake.

Strong churches are not built on blind loyalty or quiet obedience. They are built on shared humility, clear truth, and mutual accountability.

When Christians understand what following a pastor truly means, both leaders and congregations are healthier for it.
