As a Christian parent, the decision to homeschool my two young children wasn’t made lightly. It was a calling – a divine whisper that spoke to my heart about guiding my children not just through the realms of academia but also through the spiritual journey of life. In this blog, I want to share with you what a typical year in our Christian homeschooling life looks like, woven with faith, love, and learning.

Setting the Scene: Our Christian Homeschooling Ethos

In our household, homeschooling is more than schedules, textbooks, and quizzes. It’s about nurturing hearts and minds in a Christ-centered environment where education is infused with faith. We start our day with prayer and scripture, setting a tone of gratitude and reflection. This moment of peace sets the groundwork for the day, reminding us that in all things, God is with us.

Our Christian homeschooling journey is not just about meeting educational standards; it’s about understanding God’s world and our place within it. Every subject, from math to science, is an opportunity to explore God’s creation and the principles He has laid out for us.

A Year in Our Homeschooling Life

Fall: A Season of New Beginnings

Fall is a time of excitement. It’s when we set our goals, not just academically but spiritually and personally. We choose our curriculums with a balance of core subjects like math and language arts, integrated with Bible study and character education. Our projects often start with the changing seasons, exploring God’s handiwork in the falling leaves and the cycle of life.

This season also reintroduces structured learning after the free spirit of summer. We slowly adapt to a more scheduled day, starting with devotionals, transitioning into lessons, and including breaks where we can explore nature or engage in physical activity, always thanking God for His bounty.

Winter: A Time for Growth and Giving

As the world quiets under a blanket of snow, our homeschooling takes on a deeper, more introspective tone. We dive into the stories of the Bible, connecting them with history lessons, understanding the roots of our faith alongside the development of the world.

Winter is also a season of giving, an opportunity to put our faith into action. We participate in community service, understanding that Jesus calls us to serve others as a way of serving Him. Whether it’s collecting food for a local pantry or writing letters to seniors, we learn the value of kindness and generosity.
